No Sheepshead, Huge Oyster Toad

In my 4th attempt to jump on the Sheepshead action, despite the extreme heat I decided to make another attempt, but I was skunked yet again. Nearly over 20 hours of effort, gallons of gas burned, and many many dozens of fiddlers later, nothing. Rather then going for Cobia right now, I'm on a mission to catch that Sheepshead haha.

I worked different depths, many different known pilings, I tried over the tubes, all the islands, the high rise, you name it, my yellow SeaDoo was there. Today I worked the end of the incoming tide up until the beginning of the outgoing. I figured the heat wave would help the bite a bit. It seemed to do the opposite for everyone.

I also tried for Spades around the first island. Didn't catch any Spades, but did catch a few other fish using clam.

Decent size Spot on Clam

I worked the CBBT all the way down to the High Rise. Not long after, the rod tip bends, I set the hook, and a good fight begins. I was excited because I was just about to leave and here it was, finally a Sheepshead! Nope. The biggest Toadfish I've ever seen though. Too bad they don't give citations out for these things...haha

Thanks to Atlantic Bait and Tackle with assisting me with everything I needed today. If you haven't checked out this tackle store yet, I suggest you do.

I'll be out next weekend for another shot at some Sheeps.

Slow Morning at CBBT

Yesterday I towed my SeaDoo from Newport News down to Virginia Beach, stopping by Atlantic Bait and Tackle not long after they opened. Great place! Friendly and they had plenty of fiddlers. I put in at Lynnhaven Boat Ramp and Beach and proceeded to go to around the 3rd island in the hopes to catch a Sheepshead. Had some difficulty keeping the ski in one spot, even after tying off to a piling, most likely my lack of experience I guess.

Tried two different spots for Sheepshead with no luck. I watched other people catch small flounder and lots of Toadfish. I got so bored that I ended up leaving the CBBT and headed to Cape Henry to troll towards the Oceanfront, managing two little blues right before the afternoon. Seemed that the bite was starting to die off by the time I got there, some managed Spanish earlier in the day like I had last week. I honestly went trolling just so I wouldn't get completely skunked, haha.

I was hoping for my first Sheepshead now that I'm armed with a lot of tips on catching them, but I'm sure it will happen on another day (hopefully next week). My camera was having some issues so I didn't take a lot of photos, but here's a couple...

Did anyone else have any luck with Sheepshead this weekend? From what I saw, nobody was really catching much in the morning. Hopefully it changed for everyone later in the day.
