Gwynn's Island, Great Evening Fishing off the Sea-Doo
This weekend I went up to Gwynn's Island to see my girlfriends family. I brought up the jet ski so the kids could have a fun ride, and thinking we would'nt have time for fishing, I didn't bring any of my gear.
Later on towards the evening one of her family members let me use his rod with a basic bottom rig with Fishbites. Figured it was worth a shot and within no time I headed towards the state reef but found a large sand bar area I thought might work well not far from the reef, and it certainly did. Didn't fish too long because the weather was starting to get worse, but ended up catching some big croakers. And to think I thought the ones from the last report were decent, nothing compared to these!
Overall, it was a great evening fishing. Spent about an hour out there. Saw several rays some to the surface and splash around, even getting within a foot of the SeaDoo. I usually do catch and release but some of the family wanted them, so I brought 3 back with me.
One of the rays...it was hard getting a good photo
Within 5 minutes, first one! Fat croaker
Two at once...biggest one of the day. Good fight on light tackle.
14" croaker
Me with the bigger croaker
